Last month, a selection of Blwyddyn 9 pupils were given the opportunity to work with Rhys Bebb from Screen Alliance Wales to create a 60 second film in a day. The film needed planning, filming and editing and had the theme of 'The Path'. The task was tough and it didn't come without its challenges but it was an invaluable experience for all! Ysgol Dinas Bran was lucky enough to represent the county of Denbighshire in the competition and compete against other schools in North Wales. Each school submitted between three and five films which were judged by Stifyn Parri, consultant at BAFTA Cymru!
On the 18th November, Mr Sinclair and the three YDB groups attended the Judging event, seeing one of our films win the top prize and £100 for the Media department at Ysgol Dinas Bran! The film makers were: Natalie Hughes, Katie Jones, Kara Roberts, Maddy Wilson and Lucy Giles. Stifyn Parri was impressed with their editing skills but also the way that the edits were timed with the soundtrack. Their film was high energy and fast paced...leaving Stifyn Parri wanting more at the end!
Mr Sinclair is looking forward to seeing some of the film makers in GCSE Media Studies next year and hopes that all of the students took away the valuable lessons and skills that came with the competition and workshop! He is looking forward to sitting down with the successful team and spending the prize money on some much-needed filming equipment for the school. Da iawn to all involved and look out for YDB's Film Festival later in the academic year!
