Seren is a Welsh Government initiative dedicated to helping Wales’ brightest students achieve their full academic potential and support their education pathway into leading (Russell Group) universities in Wales, the UK, and overseas.

Seren Academy is for students in years 12 and 13. Seren Foundation is for high achieving students in years 8 to 11.

Wales is divided into eleven regional hubs for the purpose of administering this initiative. Ysgol Dinas Brân is in the Denbighshire / Conwy hub and occasionally collaborates with the Wrexham / Flint hub. Each hub arranges their own programme of activities for the year. At the moment all activities are delivered on-line with some in school for all members and some masterclasses in the early evenings which students can opt in to.

Ysgol Dinas Brân students will be invited to join the Seren Foundation if they have met the school’s More Able and Talented criteria.  These include CAT scores, meeting departmental criteria, attendance and behavioural records. An average of 12 students is invited each year.

Students entering year 12 need to meet the Welsh Government standard to receive an invitation to join Seren Academy. This year the requirement was a minimum of 7A* grades at GCSE or equivalent.
