Headteacher June 2017

Dear Parents,

The school has had – as you will see in this newsletter – significant successes this term. I hope you enjoy reading about them. These are only a few of the highlights of what has been a very busy summer term.

One important area I am pleased to report success in is attendance at school. Our overall attendance has risen (to 96.4%) for the third year in a row. Whilst we are pleased with this, we know we can do better still. Could I thank all parents for their support in this important area (if students attend more, they will learn more) and just remind everyone please not to take your child out of school in term-time as this will have a detrimental effect on their attendance and attainment.

I would like to draw your attention to the uniform list included in this newsletter. The main change in requirements – as highlighted – earlier this year is around shoes. From September all students should wear formal leather style black shoes only. No hybrid trainers (eg Converse, Vans) fashion boots, Ugg boots, pumps, canvas shoes or shoes with any logos. Pictures showing the correct form of shoe are on the website. If you are in any doubt, please do not hesitate to contact us for guidance before the end of term. It is also important that skirts are of required length and appropriate for school. We will take a very firm line with students who do not comply with uniform requirements (including those around jewellery and hair styles) and students may be removed from lessons and lunchtime until uniform is correct. We have good standards on uniform, we know we can make them even better and I thank you, in advance, for your support on this important matter.

You will have already received a letter from Mrs Ashford, Chair of Governors, regarding arrangements for next year and will be aware that Mr Hatch will be Acting Headteacher while I am on secondment to GwE. I will be in school one day a week supporting Mr Hatch and the Senior Management Team. I will return to full time duties at Dinas Brân in September 2018.

Thank you for your support over the last twelve months and have a really nice summer.

Yours sincerely,

Mr M. Froggett
